How to Properly Wash Your Silicone Toys

Preparing for Your Next Playtime

Although you may be relaxing in bed after a good time with your favorite adult sex toys, it’s important that you still find the energy to wash your toy. Not doing so can lead to infections. While some toys are porous and should be avoided due to how difficult it is to clean them, toys made of silicone are non-porous and extremely easy to clean. Here are a few steps that you should take to clean our silicone toys from Cupid’s Box.

1. Presence of a Motor

If your toy has a motor, then you may not be able to submerge the toy in water. Doing so can short-circuit the motor or cause other damage. In some cases, you may need to remove the motor before cleaning the toy. Otherwise, you can typically just run a damp cloth with antibacterial soap over the toy.

Because silicone isn’t porous, you don’t have to worry about the water reaching the motor. Soap that you use to wash your hands should be strong enough to kill any bacteria that may be lingering on your toy. Wipe your toy thoroughly to ensure it’s absolutely clean.

2. Without a Motor

In the event that your toy doesn’t a motor, you can easily clean it by placing it in boiling water for 10 minutes. Simply fill a pot with boiling water, and then toss your toy right in. Just make sure that your pot is clean, too.

An additional method for those who especially want to be lazy is to place your toy in the dishwasher. Not only will the dishwasher thoroughly clean your toy, but the steam that the dishwasher creates will sanitize your toy.

3. Preventative Measures

If the idea of cleaning your toy every time you use it sounds annoying, then you have an option. To prevent bacteria from growing on your toy, you could cover it with a condom when you use it. Any bacteria that accumulates will simply spread across the condom instead.

Once you’re done playing, you can toss the condom out, and your toy will remain in pristine condition.

4. Drying

Finally, after your toy has been cleaned and rinsed, you need to dry it appropriately. Using the same towel that you cleaned it with could infect it again. You should take a fresh towel and dry it. Storing your toy is also important. The best place to store it is either in a silk bag or a case. This will help keep it from touching other items that may have bacteria on it.
